Vegan Dinner Idea: Mongolian Grill

When we realized our potatoes that we were going to use for baked potatoes were bad, we had to think of some place to go get dinner, because we didn’t have any food in the house. It was a little tough because every place we usually go isn’t veg friendly.

Challenge Accepted!!

Thanks, we discovered a list of veg-friendly restaurants in the San Antonio area. They even listed what makes the restaurants veg-friendly. It’s a great resource, so I’ve bookmarked it on my browser. With their help, we settled on Asian stir fry at Huhot Mongolian Grill. It’s an all you can eat stir fry buffet!


  • lots of veggies to choose from
  • tofu is available
  • can use white rice to make fried rice
  • Cons:

  • meat is at the forefront and tempting
  • your food is cooked next to everyone else’s
  • not sure if their noodles have eggs, and neither do the waiters
  • Huhot is neat because you build your meal from the ground up. You choose the kind and amount of veggies, noodles, meat, and sauces for the cooks to prepare for you. Then you give it to them and they whip it together right in front of you on a big grill.

    For example I had my rice cooked with mushrooms, cabbage, carrots, tofu, onions, and asparagus. Then I added garlic oil, teriyaki sauce, and yellow curry (per a Huhot recipe card). And viola, my own vegan fried rice!

    Overall it was a nice surprise to fall into. We enjoyed being able to eat at a normal restaurant and still make vegan choices.
