We’re 9 days into our Vegan diet, and I feel that it’s time for an update. (I’ll try and do this periodically so those who are following the blog know how we’re doing and so those who stumble upon the blog have reason to follow. 🙂 )
So far, being a vegan hasn’t been as hard as we thought! Thankfully. I was a bit worried that during the first two weeks I’d have a craving for a hamburger, or chicken fried steak, but so far I haven’t had one craving. Anytime Jackie sees a commercial or ad for meat, she says out loud “Aww that poor baby cow!”, “Those poor little chickens!”, etc. It helps remind her of one of the reasons why we went vegan. We’re both actually feeling really good about our plant based diet and aren’t worried about giving up or caving into convenience and ease.
The hardest thing we’ve struggled with is finding vegan alternatives at chain restaurants that we like going to. We love to dine out because of the social experience, and in the south it’s hard to find a place to go that doesn’t have meat and dairy in everything. As we find some, I will post them here so others can enjoy them too. It’s hard going somewhere when even the wait staff doesn’t know if the food has eggs or milk in it.
In the next month I want to review some milk alternatives that we’ve tried. Milk was a staple in our pre-vegan diet, so we’ve had to find some kind of dairy free milk to enjoy with cereal and with vegan cookies.
During this first weekish of being vegan, we’ve also noticed that the diet has also worked as a bit of a cleanse for our bodies. We feel much lighter overall and not bogged down and tired all the time like we used to be. We’ve also both noticed our pants aren’t as tight as they were 9 days ago. It’ll be interesting to see how our health has changed in two months. I’m sure an update will be in order when we notice large changes.
If you have any questions about our vegan-diet or have suggestions about places to go or meals to eat, please comment on the blog and let us know. We enjoy hearing from other vegans!
