Jackie and I took a trip to the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo yesterday with some friends. It’s one of our local traditions. Admittedly, it’s not the most vegan friendly experience. First of all, the food choices are a bit ironic. Nothing but meat to eat at a place to celebrate the very animals the meat comes from. Another reason a rodeo is not a synonym for vegan is that it’s a lot of contests that in my opinion mistreat the animals ( typically for 8-10 seconds ) for the sake of who can do it fastest. They also auction off cows, goats, etc. for breeding and eating. All in all it’s a very cultural experience.
What we found to possibly be the most non-vegan sounding dish at the rodeo was the “Beef Sundae.” Yep you’re reading this right. Beef sundae.
It’s actually not quite as gross as it seems, it’s really just the name. It’s mashed potatoes, not ice cream. There are however some other odd and gross concoctions available to…eat? Things like fried butter and fried kool-aid. They even had deep fried Snickers and Milky Ways! Oh the world in which we live.
Thanks for reading!
